A.'s Story

Allie Louis A. L. Whitt Jr., 97 retired professor of Biology, Eastern Kentucky University, and widower of Willie Christine Clark Whitt, passed away, Sunday morning, October 1, 2017.
He was born on January 29, 1920, in Crittenden County, Kentucky, the son of the late Allie L. and Alzira Milliken Whitt Sr. Mr. Whitt served in the Biology Department at EKU from 1948-1982. He received his BS degree from Western Kentucky and his MS degree from The University of Kentucky. He did further study at Vanderbilt University and The University of Virginia. In addition he was a member of the Kentucky Ornithological Society and a former member of the Kentucky Academy of Science. He had co-authored a book, Kentucky Birds in 1973.
Mr. Whitt was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, where he had served as a deacon and elder, and was a U.S. Naval Reserve Veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the WBCCI Airstream Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. In his words of wisdom, he would say Never let the truth, interfere with a good story.
Survivors include three children: Clark Lewis Whitt and wife Barbara of Key West, FL., William B. Whitt and wife Mary Lou of Waco, KY., and Sandra Stone of Cincinnati, OH., three grandchildren: Nathan Whitt (Deidria), Christine Carma McIntosh (Johnny) and Hannah Kathleen Whitt; three great-grandchildren: Lily and Sophia Whitt and John Walker McIntosh.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Curtis Whitt, Burtis Whitt and Oliver Whitt and two sisters: Evelyn Cruse and Mary Helen Crouch.
Funeral Service 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 6, 2017 at The First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Curtis Christian officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday evening at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street.
Pallbearers will be: Nathan Whitt, Don Dickson, Fred Crump, Gill Shew, Phillip Seyfrit and David Jett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Lily Whitt, Sophia Whitt, John Walker McIntosh and Dale Partick
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. John Gillespie, the staff at the Terrance Nursing facility in Berea, and especially to Ashley Stamper, for the love and care shown to Mr. Whitt.
