Alice's Story

Alice Mae Winkler Whittamore, 76, of Richmond, the widow of Roy "Jr." Whittamore, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 8, 2017.
She was born April 9, 1941, a native of Madison County, to the late Della Ree Reynolds Johns and late Alvis W. Winkler. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty Lou Whittamore, a son, Edward Allen "Eddie" Whittamore and two sisters, Barbara Jean Ingram and Shirley Ann Lowery.
She leaves behind six children: Roy (Glenna) Whittamore, Lula (Doug) Benton, Judy (Willis) Turner, David "Winchy" (Sylvia) Whittamore, Johnny Whittamore, and Bryan Whittamore, all of Richmond; several brothers and sisters, including Carolyn (Cecil) Bingham of Richmond and Bobby (Dale) Winkler of Aiken, SC; 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, that all called her Granny Nanny, and several nieces and nephews. Everyone loved her and will miss her dearly.
She was of the Baptist faith, but attended Victory World Outreach Center with her daughter several times and accepted the Lord as her Savior while attending there.
She resided in Kenwood Nursing Home (Richmond Rehab Center) for the last year of her life where she had grown to love her caregivers. She went to the Dialysis clinic the last 15 years of her life and they loved her dearly. She had developed Alzheimers and had been ill quite some time before her passing and her children had to make the final decision to let her go home to be with the Lord.
Funeral service for Mrs. Whittamore will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Chris Holman and Owen Moody officiating. Pallbearers will be Willie Turner, Aaron Whittamore, Cade Rose, E. J. Moore, Alan Whittamore, Chad Whittamore, Michael Gibbs, and Kyser Rose. Visitation for friends will be from 6 - 9 PM Friday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home on Barnes Mill Road.
She will be laid to rest in the Richmond Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Roy "Jr. Whittamore, following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home to help pay for any expenses that may occur.
