Anita Lynn Hurst Barker, 82, of Berea, passed away on November, 2, 2017.
Anita was born to Lillian Isaacs Hurst and Nelson Stephen Hurst in 1935. She received her B.A. in public school music from Berea College in 1958 where she earned membership in Phi Kappa Phi. After teaching music for three years at Silver Creek Elementary School, Anita earned M.A. in counseling and testing from Eastern Kentucky University and joined the faculty of Berea College as Associate Director of Counseling and Testing. Over the following 36 years, she rose to the positions of Director of Counseling Services, became Associate Dean for Student Development and Counseling and at the time of her retirement was Director Counseling and Wellness Services.
She will be missed by her children, Jerry Fish, Melanie Fish and Steve Robinson, her grandson Chuck McIntyre, the members of her extended family, whether acquired by blood or marriage, and the thousands of students she counseled, mothered, nurtured, and cajoled through to the next stage of their lives over three and a half decades at Berea.
In accordance with wishes, her remains were cremated. Visitation will be at Reppert Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers should be directed to the New Opportunity School for Women at Berea College, the Salvation Army or the First Christian Church/Disciples of Christ in Berea.
