Aretta Ward Holbrook Aretta "Rita" Ward Holbrook, 87, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday evening, March 5, 2019 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

She was born June 23, 1931, in Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Forest and Myrtle Collins Ward. Rita was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, having been baptized at the Bardstown Baptist Church, in 1958. She loved to garden and grow flowers, as well as to cook, sew, and read her daily newspaper, as she had a great interest in politics.

Rita is survived by two daughters, Gwendolyn Brussell (Larry) and P. J. (Jim) Bishop, both of Richmond; four sons, Harold "Hal" Holbrook (Phoebe) of Napa Valley, California, Albert "Al" Holbrook (April) of LaGrange, Kentucky, Mel Stephen Holbrook of Lexington and Dale Edward Holbrook of St. Louis, Missouri.

Other survivors include her sisters, Mary Goins, Grace Sterns and Belva Keene; and grandchildren, Julie Dawn Westcott, Shasha Margarit Holbrook, Phillip Forest Holbrook, Adam Edward Holbrook, Rachel Sunshine Holbrook, Leah Renae Holbrook, Mathew Albert Holbrook, Abigail Grace Holbrook, Mary Rose Holbrook and Ruth Eve Holbrook, as well as several nieces and nephews and great grandchildren Jackson Talmadge Bishop, Bodhi Julien West and Reeta Julien West.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jacob Talmadge Bishop and Nicholas Seth Holbrook; as well as, her brothers, Elmer, James, Ernest, Charlie, Lon C. Ward and Troy Martin.

Funeral service for Rita will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Fort officiating, followed by burial in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell.
