Betty Neil Elder Kirkpatrick, 92, of Richmond, passed away Friday January 19, 2018 at her home surrounded by family.
Born July 18, 1925, in Richmond, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Joseph William and Mary Neil Greene Elder and the younger sister of Gene Elder Muncy, all of whom preceded her in death. Betty Neil graduated from Model Laboratory School and Eastern Kentucky University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education. She taught at White Hall Elementary from 1964 till 1987 and continued as a substitute teacher until 2005 at the age of 80. She loved teaching and loved children. She was a life long member of St Mark Catholic Church and loved her church deeply. She was active in the Alter Society and the Ice Cream Socials. She and her husband Joe were avid EKU and UK basketball fans, even having had the entire EKU basketball team and staff to her home for Thanksgiving dinner one year. She was also a fantastic dancer and she and Joe spent many happy times over the years dancing. They were active participants in the PACHA Charity Ball from it's onset. They were active members of the Madison Country Club and Arlington for many decades. She was an active member at the Telford YMCA where she and Joe were part of Body Recall up until she was 91 and was no longer physically able to attend. She was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel and a Chief Scout of Fort Boonesboro. But most of all, Betty Neil loved her family and her animals. She was happiest at home surrounded by her family and her animals.
Betty Neil is survived by her husband Joe, of 66 years of marriage, one daughter Beth Kirkpatrick Jiroch, and one sister Bicki Elder Elswick all of Richmond; two granddaughters, Kelly Elizabeth Jiroch and Kimberly Jiroch Enochs (Greg); one great-grandson Lucas Thor Enochs; four nieces, Margaret Muncy Willingham, Chrissy Muncy Henderson, Amy Elswick Knopp, Catherine Elswick Barger and numerous  cousins, and great nieces and great nephews.
