Cara Anne Roecker, 40, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in Au Train, Michigan. Anne, as she preferred to be called, had bravely dealt with chronic pain for many years after suffering a broken neck in a car accident in the late 90s. Much of the last year of her life was spent writing about and advocating for the rights of people suffering from chronic pain.
Anne was a 2000 graduate of Berea College where she majored in English and Music. During her college career, she was involved in several college drama performances, including a lead role (Hon. Gwendolyn Fairfax) in The Importance of Being Earnest. She performed as a featured soloist with choir groups and alone as a solo recitalist. She loved music, opera, movies, traveling, scuba diving, softball and reading. Her favorite author was Jane Austen.
Anne also competed regionally and nationally on the AAU and USAKF (karate) competition circuits. She taught and coached younger dojo members, who have competed in and won regional and national competitions. Anne was a 2nd Degree Black Belt, AAU National Championship All-American and AAU National, Regional, State Champion.
In 2005, Anne graduated within a fraction of being number one in her class at the University of Toledo College of Law. After graduation, she was hired by the Chicago law firm of Katten Muchin Rosenman where she worked as an attorney for several years. She won multiple awards while employed by Katten and especially enjoyed her pro bono work for the firm.
Surviving are: Anne's husband, Lee E. Roecker of Au Train, Michigan; mother and stepfather, Melissa and Randy Osborne of Berea; stepson, Sam Roecker of Des Moines, Iowa; and many extended family members including her three cats, Taylor, Danielle and Lewis.
Private family services will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials in honor of Anne are suggested to The Randy and Melissa Osborne Emergency Fund for Students and Families, Berea College - CPO Box 2216, Berea, Kentucky 40404; a cat rescue organization, Kitty, INCor, 421 Christmas Ridge Road, Berea, KY 40403 or a charity of one's choice.
