Caroline Jeanette Bates, age 83, died peacefully at home on November 4, 2016, surrounded by her daughters from complications from Alzheimer's disease. Caroline was born May 1, 1933, in Madison, Minnesota, to Norwegian immigrants Hans and Mable Strand.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Margo Ramsey and sister Norma Seekon. She is survived by: her children, Marcia (Jim) Lehner of Florida, Beth Bates of Lexington and Dawn (Paul) Sirek of Louisville; her sister, Virginia Wilson of Hope, Michigan, and brother, David Strand of Minneapolis, Minnesota; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Caroline was retired from Eastern Kentucky University where she was a secretary. She leaves behind a family and friends that loved her very much and will miss her greatly.
A celebration of Caroline's life will be held on December 26, 2016, at Southern Hills United Methodist Church, Lexington, at 4 p.m. A reception will follow at the home of her daughter Beth Bates in Lexington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name may be sent to Hosparus of Louisville.
