Cecil "Dude" Cochran, 86, retired Madison County Sheriff, and the widower of Betsy Barclay Cochran, passed away Friday afternoon, March 8, 2019 at Baptist Health in Richmond.
Dude was born on September 22, 1932 in Madison County at White Station. He was the son of the late Cecil Sr. and Arebell Marcum Cochran. He and his wife Betsy, owned and operated Madison Furniture Company for 28 years and in addition he operated a lime hauling business. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was well respected in this community.
He served as a Deputy Sheriff from 1978-1982. In 1982 he was elected Sheriff of Madison County a position he held until 2007. He was the first sheriff elected who could succeed himself, making him the longest serving sheriff in Madison County. Also, he was a member of The Kentucky Sheriff's Association and always supported the KY Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch at Gilbertsville, KY.
Survivors include one daughter: Brenda Cochran (Donnie); three sons: Charles Raymond Cochran (Judy), Kyle Alan Cochran (Pam Dobson) and Cecil Lynn Cochran (Dawn); ten grandchildren: Anthony Hendrix (Kendra Raider), Angela Blair (Josh), Chris Cochran (Andi), Brandi Cochran Shepherd, Logan Cochran, Kalan Cochran (Kristina), Korey Cochran, Caitlynn Cochran, Kennedy Lewis and Savannah Lewis; six great-grandchildren: Ella Jewel Blair, Anna Marie Blair, Cameron Cochran, Regan Douglas, Makayla Shepherd and Wyatt Owen Cochran; one sister: Faye Baker (Ellis); two brothers: Oscar "Doc" Cochran and William "Bill" Cochran (Wanda); a sister-in-law: Bobbi Ann Cochran; three brothers-in-law: Russell Barclay (Ann), Harry Barclay and Jerry Barclay (Debbie) as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Johnny and Donnie Cochran and a sister: Ruth Hutchins.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Livingood officiating. Burial will follow at Madison Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 4-9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
Honorary Pallbearers will be former deputies and office staff of Sheriff Cochran's Administration.
Memorial Contributions may be made to The Hospice Compasssionte Care Center in Richmond.

Brenda and Brothers, so sorry for your Fathers passing, he was truly a great and fair man, as was your mother. We attended a lot of sports games together and I worked with your Dad at the courthouse. They will be truly missed by all.
