Curtis "T" Christian III passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Charleston, S.C., following a long illness.
He was born on April 4, 1937, in Macon, Georgia. He was the son of the late Curtis "T" Christian Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Elkins Christian. Curtis was a career Navy Mineman. He retired from the Navy in 1975. He was a proud member of the Association of Minemen and served as Secretary/Treasurer of that organization from 2001 to 2011 and was on the 2011-2012 Board of Directors.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and daredevil. He spent many years as an Exchange Student Host, accommodating students from all over the world. He was a long time breeder of champion pigeons and a small time farmer. Curtis was a devoted father who loved spending time with his family, especially at Thanksgiving. He was loved by many and touched the lives of everyone he met.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary Frances Tompkins Christian; his son, Dr. Curtis "T" Christian IV (Wendy) of Richmond; two daughters, Meri Guerry (Jay) and Pamela Baudrand (Jean); two stepsons, Tommy and Alvie Tompkins; eight grandchildren; his sister, Betty Walden (Charles); and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Curtis was also preceded in death by his brother, George Leon Christian.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home.
