Daisy's Story

Dr. Daisy Burns French, 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 18, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband Edward Howland French, her daughter Barbara French Cooper.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia French Anderson (Rex), granddaughters Heather Cooper Ellis, Ashley Cooper Waechter (Kurt), Bethany Cooper Watt; grandsons Ryan Roger Anderson, William Edward Cooper, great-granddaughters Meredith Grace Waechter, Abbigail Brooke Anderson, Margaret Anne Watt, great-grandsons William Kade Waechter, and Rylan Roger Anderson and many great nieces and nephews.
Daisy was born and raised in Clay County, KY. She earned her Bachelor's degree in business and her Master's in Education from Eastern Kentucky University and her Doctorate from the University of Kentucky. She was an accounting professor for 33 years on Eastern Kentucky's business faculty. Daisy was the the first person from the College of Business to join the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. For her activism through the American Association of University Women, the Kentucky division of the organization presented her its Outstanding Service Award. She was a member of the Kentucky Council of Higher Education. She served as vice chair for many of the 6 years she was a member of the Eastern Kentucky Board of Regents. She was also a member of the EKU Foundation Board. She held the honor of being both Regent Emeritus and Foundation Board Member Emeritus. Daisy was awarded the Presidential Award of Merit in 2007. Daisy enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She was a loving, generous, kind and compassionate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to EKU and fondly remembered her days on the faculty and as a board member.
Her family wishes to thank the outstanding caregivers and nurses of The Breckinridge who provided Daisy with the absolutely best love and care.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association and Hospice of the Bluegrass Bereavement Camps.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 5:00pm-7:00pm with a Memorial Service at 7:00pm at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road Richmond, KY 40475.
