Dora's Story

Dora Lou May Shearer, 81, widow of Walter L. Shearer, passed away Thursday evening, October 27, 2016, at The St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
She was born on October 4, 1935, in Magoffin County, the daughter of the late Samuel Earl and Hortense Taylor May. She was a retired human resource clerk for Westinghouse - North American Phillips Companies, and was a self employed tax consultant. She was a member of the Union Church in Berea.
Survivors include: three sons, Dempsey Louis Shearer (Tamara), Daniel Clay Shearer (Sharon) and Craig Freling Shearer (Amy); two daughters, Vola May Shearer Estes (Harry Jr.) and Victoria Lynn Shearer Blevins (Mike Roark); 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: a son, Samuel Bruce Shearer; two sisters and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at The Shearer Family Cemetery at Brassfield.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
