Earl Douglas "Doug" Howard, 82, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
Doug was born on June 15, 1935 in Madison County, Ky., the son of the late Garnett and Dorothy Whittaker Howard. Doug was a 1955 graduate of Kirksville High School, a retired employee of IBM, and a member of the Salem Christian Church. Doug loved the area of Madison County that he called home, Kirksville and Poosey Ridge. He served on the board of the Salem Cemetery and work tirelessly to make sure it was cared for. When the Kirksville School moved to its new location, he gave of his time to help the Kirksville Community Center.
He is survived by his three children: Michael D. Howard (Teresa), Jennifer Howard and Thelma Leigh Howard; four grandchildren: Samuel Moher, John Douglas Howard, Brittanie Howard Gonzales (Jose) and McKenzie Jane Howard; three great-grandchildren: Braelyn, Ashtynn and Malachi Gonzales; his dear friend, Barbara Warren Howard; nephew, Rod Howard; niece, Cindy Howard; a host of cousins other relatives and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Gene B. "Tarp" Howard and four dear ladies who made an impression on his life, Mrs. Ethel Collins, Mrs. Lucille Malear, Mrs. Etta Faye Taylor and Mrs. Elizabeth Caldwell.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with burial following in the Salem Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Howard, Jimmy Howard, Wendell Howard, Steve Morgan, Billy Collins, Johny Collins and Joe M. Masters.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Donald Agee and Lyle Adams.
