Garnett C Kearns, 81, died September 29, 2017. He was the son of Zelpha and Raymond Kearns. He was predeceased by: both parents, brother, Raymond D., and sisters, Ray Taylor, and, Jacquline Whalin. He is survived by daughter, Karen Kelly Schooley, and son, Kendall Kearns and brothers, Bert (Bonnie), Bernie (Mary Lou), and Randall (Danielle). He also leaves three grand children and several nieces and nephews.
Garnett was an U.S. Army Veteran and he also served as a Richmond Police Officer for many years. He was commisioned a "Kentucky Colonel" in recognition of his heroic act of jumping into an icy pond and rescuing one of two young boys who had broken through the ice.
Appreciation is extended to the staff of Homestead Nursing Home who cared for Garnett, and to Heritage Funeral Home.
Private services will be conducted.
