George Ebert Campbell, Sr.


George Ebert Campbell, Sr., 77, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Kenwood Health & Rehab of Richmond.

Born May 6, 1941, at State College, Pennsylvania, to William Andrew Campbell Sr. and Eleanor Ebert Campbell, both of whom preceded him in death.

Dr. Campbell was a retired Professor of History and Social Science at Eastern Kentucky University from 1972 until 2000 and served as Director of International Education. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed woodworking and he studied Mandarin Chinese as a hobby.

Survivors include his loving wife, Martha Christine Collier Campbell of Richmond; three sons, George Ebert Campbell Jr. (Rocky), Andrew Kelly Campbell (Lori), and Christopher Collier Campbell (Tammy); one sister, Kay Spencer; four grandchildren, Lacy Mynheer, Tess Godsey, Madison Huffman, and Taylor Brown; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William A. Campbell, Jr.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm followed by a memorial service on Saturday, February 9 at Oldham, Roberts and Powell in Richmond, Kentucky, with Dr. Curtis Christian officiating.

The family requests that donations be made to Madison County Humane Society Animal League for Life in lieu of flowers.
