Harold Gibson Rice

Harold Gibson Rice, 88, died peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017. He was a devoted father and loving husband of 65 years to Donna Bogie Rice. Born in Madison County, November 13, 1929, Harold was a lifelong member of The Flatwoods Christian Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after serving 31 years as the Waco Postmaster. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and had also been a grocer. He was an avid gardener and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.
Harold was preceded in death by his father and mother: Harold A. and Katie Tipton Rice. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Stephen (Jo Dee) Rice of Elizabethtown and Gary (Geri) Rice of Lexington; six grandchildren: Christopher (Danille) Rice of Hebron, Leandra (J.T.) Torra of Louisville, Alexander Rice of Elizabethtown, Emily (Christopher) Hurst of Georgetown, Eric (Molly) Rice of Lexington and Brett Rice of Louisville, nine great-grandchildren; a brother: Donald E. (Sue) Rice of Waco and a sister: Judy (Ralph) Childers of Richmond. Also he leaves behind his pet cat Smokey.
The family would like to thank his special caregiver, Linda Gray.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 at The Flatwoods Christian Church with Bro. Tim Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of The Flatwoods Christian Church and Harry and Betty Bush, Barbara Richardson, Bruce Tipton, Carolyn Sue Cedilote and Rachel Lewis.
