Harvey Lainhart, 95, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.
He was born October 11, 1921, at Brazil, Kentucky, in Jackson County to the late Mirrell and Annie Coyle Lainhart and was the widower of Irma Pack Lainhart. Harvey was a retired employee of the Blue Grass Army Depot and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid walker and he enjoyed reading.
He was a US Army veteran of WW II and recipient of the Purple Heart. He served during the Invasion of Normandy in the American Theatre 80th Division Infantry and also received the Expert & Combat Infantryman Badge.
Survivors include: two daughters, Bonnie Vanover of Richmond and Connie Newsom (Wendell) of Berea; one brother, Charlie Lainhart of McKee; two granddaughters, Megan Vanover of Richmond and Andrea Newsom of Berea.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Irene Combs, Berti Sandlin, Millie Plowman, Edna Howard, and Hattie Marie Lainhart, and two brothers, Ira and Dennis Lainhart.
Funeral service for Harvey Lainhart will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Earl VanWinkle officiating. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
