James Pony Cowan, 81, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Baptist Health Richmond.
Mr. Cowan, the son of the late Harvey Cowan and June Barrett Cowan, was born April 8, 1936 in Doyles Branch, Clay County, Kentucky. He retired from Westinghouse / Phillips Lighting. He enjoyed golfing, going to the YMCA and horse racing. Crappie fishing at Okeechobee and playing gin with his friends at East Main were among his past times. He was member of Eastside Community Church.
On April 27, 1963 Mr. Cowan united in marriage to Josephine Wooten Cowan who preceded him in death on February 10, 2014
Survivors include: his son: James Cowan and wife Mary Beth of Nicholasville and his daughter: Loretta Parke and husband Doug of Richmond; two brothers: Pearl Cowan and Joe Cowan; his sister: Lois Durbin; four grandchildren: Gary Cowan, Letitia Daugherty and husband Joey, Jakob Cowan and Mallory Cowan and three great grandchildren: Conor Daughterty, Eli Daugherty and Sidney Wormley.
Mr. Cowan was also preceded in death by two brothers: Jackie Cowan and Leon Cowan and two sisters: Glenna Cowan and Sandra Cowan.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Dr. Virgil Grant officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
His friends at East Main will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
