James Edward Simpson, 78, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday November 18, 2017. He was born September 24, 1939, to parents, Reather Simpson and Della Long Simpson in Richmond.
James was a farmer and mechanic until he retired, then worked full-time at Walmart in addition to running a used movie and book business as a hobby. He was an avid reader and loved books especially history and literature.
James is survived by: his wife, Ruthann; three children, Zackery James Simpson (Hazel), Virginia Gayle Bowlin (Joe), and Reather Keith Simpson (Virginia); two step-children, Bryan Martin (Annisa), Julie Lewis (Michael); a brother, Tommy Simpson (Debbie); four sisters, Myrtle Lovell, Wilma Smith (Ernie), Carolyn Adkinson (Mike), and Doris Lane (Russell); 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special nephew Mike Adkinson; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
James is preceded in death by: his parents, Reather Simpson and Della Long Simpson; one son, Edward Earl Simpson, and one daughter, Lisa Simpson; one grandchild, Christian Nicole Simpson; two sisters Lillian (Grevis) Simpson and Charlene Minerich.
Pallbearers will be Joe Bowlin, Richard William (Rick) Stone, James Eric Simpson, Mike Adkinson, Travis Simpson, and Raz Adkinson. Honorary Pallbearers are Bryan Martin and Michael Lewis.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. which will be followed by the funeral service at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, Kentucky, 40513. Interment will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
