Jo Ann's Story
Dr. Jo Ann Ellingson passed away on April 4, 2017. Jo Ann was initially a native of Chicago, attending Mother McCauley H.S. before moving to Wheaton, IL, St George Island FL and eventually to Richmond KY where she resided within the St Andrews community for the past 12 years. Jo Ann was born on September 13, 1936, the daughter of Dr. Roger and Johanne (Groh) Farley. Jo Ann raised three children before returning to school to earn her B.A. in Liberal Arts from University of Illinois at Chicago Circle in 1968. She went on to earn her first Master's Degree in Library Science from Rosary College, IL in 1969, her second Masters in Educational Administration from U of I Chicago Circle and eventually her Ph.D in Public Policy Analysis from U of I in 1994. She had always been an advocate for public libraries serving as the Library Director for Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Assistant State Librarian of Florida and Library Director for Zion-Benton IL Public Library. Most recently she served on the Friends of the Library Board for Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond KY. She enjoyed travel as well as theater, the arts and playing bridge. She's is survived by her 3 children Linda Wallace, John Ellingson and Larry Ellingson, along with 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Monday April 10th 10:00am at the First Methodist Church in Richmond.
