John Wayne Alcorn, 71, departed his Earthly Body May 9, 2017, to be with his Heavenly Father and Family in Heaven. He was a member of Cartersville Holiness Church.
John was the son of the late Johnny and Rebecca Alcorn. He lived in Berea all his life. He was employed over the years as a truck driver for Dollar General, worked in maintenance for Berea Hospital, McDonalds in Richmond, and retired from Walmart after 16 years. He loved playing music at festivals, nursing homes, a lot of churches, even entertaining people on his street with his front porch pickin'. He was a member of three different music bands over his lifetime, The Wings of Love, 5-Strings of Bluegrass. And his last group was Canaan Bound. He made several tapes over the years, anyone that knew him, knew he could bring out his Banjo or Guitar and just play music anywhere.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 48 years, Clydia Alcorn; his children were his pet dogs who he loved dearly, Little Buffy and Sylvester, who will miss him; two brothers, Donald and Bonnie Alcorn, and Bruce and Karleen Alcorn; two sisters, Patsy and Darrell Isaacs, and Connie and Larry Lewis; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Bruce Alcorn, Bro. Clyde Coffey, and Bro. J.B. Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Lewis, Duane Crabtree, Waylon Isaacs, Shane Alcorn, Shannon Sparks, and Ricky Gabbard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shelly Rapier, Chris, and Jay Croucher and Jason Broughton. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the funeral home.
