John Wayne Madden, 39, of Berea, passed away suddenly Monday, March 6, 2017, at Baptist Health Lexington hospital.
He was born in Lebanon, Kentucky, on November 25, 1977. John was an alumnus of the class of 1996 from Madison Southern High School, and went on to attend EKU, where he was a walk-on member of the men's basketball team. After graduation, John worked for various factories including KI and NAACO.
John loved sports and enjoyed both playing and coaching several teams. He was an avid UK fan and never missed a game. John enjoyed cooking, gardening, spending time with his ca,t "Meatball," as well as hunting and fishing. He was especially proud of the notorious 19-point monster buck of Bear Wallow that he finally got after several years.
Above all other things, John loved his family, especially his girls. He always told his family he loved them and that he kept them in his heart.
John was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in Berea.
John is survived by: his parents, Michael Hugh & Mary Beth Madden; his fiancée, Pamela Christian; his two daughters, Kayla Hargis and Ashley Madden; three stepchildren, Angela, Josh and Ryan Fowler; three brothers, Gilbert "Gil" Miller, William Michael Madden and Jeffery Isaacs; two sisters, Regina "Gina" Ann Hudson and Robin Beth Madden; two half-sisters, Ashley Bowman and Jordan Hobbs; two stepgrandchildren, Avery Presley and Cash Wilson; his grandparents, Vivian Madden, and Calvin & Peggy Pinkston; and his pet cat, Meatball.
Other survivors include: Calvin Wayne & Pam Pinkston; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Bernard Ambrose & Donna Jean Leake, Shirley Purcell, and Hugh Madden.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, with visitation starting at noon, at the St. Clare Catholic Church, 622 Chestnut St., Berea, with Father Michael Flanagan officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, followed by a prayer service at 9 p.m..
Pallbearers will be: David McDonough, Chris Hudson, Curtis Agee, D. Wayne Hensley, Ryan Fowler and Charles Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Felicity Hopkins and William Madden.
