Leon Farthing, 72, of Richmond, a retired tool and die engineer, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016.
He was born in Madison County on February 3, 1944, the son of the late Herman and Imogene Cole Farthing. Leon was retired from GECOM of Franfort and was a member of the Richmond House of Prayer. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished guitar player who loved country music and played with his friends and several different groups through the years. During his tour of Vietnam, he was a member of a band called "Wranglers" who proudly entertained the troops. He loved playing golf, camping and travelling.
Survivors include: his wife, Sarah Saylor Farthing; his daughter, Amy Elizabeth Farthing; four brothers, Charles Farthing, Gary Farthing (Connie), Randall Farthing (Mary), David Farthing (Charlotte); four sisters, Brenda Parke (Garnett), Joan Charles (Ray), Sharon Green and Faye Logsdon; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by: five brothers, Kenneth Farthing, O'neal Farthing, James Farthing, Manuel Farthing and Larry Farthing; one sister, Ruth Ann Farthing.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Owen Moody officiating. Burial will be in the Manse Cemetery with full military honors observed.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Michael Farthing, Robbie Farthing, Brian Farthing, Wayne Allen, Jr., Eric Saylor and Adam Saylor.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne and Thelma Allen, Sherry and Charles Biller, Sara and Woody Halterman, Jasper Pearson, Allen Johnson, Mitchell Farthing and Charles Farthing, Jr.
