Philip's Story

Richmond-Philip Milligan Semler, 91, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2017. Philip was born on April 26, 1926 in Benton Harbor, MI to Charles and Mabel Semler. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1944. He was President of the National Honor Society and a member of the BHHS 1943 State Champion Football Team. In 1944 he enlisted in the US Naval Aviation Pilots Training Program and was Honorably Discharged in 1946. Under the GI Bill, he attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa and graduated in 1949 with a BS in Industrial Engineering. While at Iowa State, he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi. During his career, he was Plant Manager of foundries in Michigan, Ohio, Alabama and Missouri for over 30 years. He was President of the Michiana Foundrymans Society and Purdue University Metal Casting Conference. He served as Chairman of Fundraising for the United Negro College Fund. He was Sales Manager at Red Head Petroleum Company until his retirement in 2000. Philip married Barbara Corbidge in 1950 and they were married for 67 years. They had 5 children of whom he was very proud. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Semler, sister Dorothy Jane (Dean) Coder, brother Robert Semler, nephew Charles Semler, granddaughter Christine Kupets, son in law Barry Adkins and brother in law James Preston. He is survived by his sister in law Helen Semler, sister Connie Preston, son Bradley (Marti) Semler, daughter Valerie (Brian) McKeighen, daughter Victoria Partridge, daughter Christine Adkins, daughter Constance (Thom) Kupets, grandchildren Robert (Lindsay), James (Nicole), Sarah (Anthony), Kathryn (Tim), Laura, Margaret, Carly, Blair & Victoria, great grandchildren Keili, Raena & Shane, Ryan, Eliza, Olivia and numerous nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kentucky Organ Donors Affiliates or Woodford County Humane Society. www.clarklegacycenter.com
