Reather Simpson, 94, of Richmond, widower of Della B. Long Simpson, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016.
He was born in Garrard County on February 23, 1922, the son of the late Frank Simpson and Bessie Cheeks Curtis. Mr. Simpson was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a farmer, a skilled carpenter and concrete worker. Through his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, yard sales and flea markets. He was a long time member of Clarksville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years.
Survivors include: two sons, James Edward Simpson (Ruthann) and Tommy Simpson (Debbie); four daughters, Wilma Smith (Ernie), Myrtle Lovell, Carolyn Adkinson (Mike) and Doris Gray (Russell); one brother, Glenmore Curtis; one sister, Louise Winkler; a son-in-law, Frank Minerich; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: two daughters, Charlene Minerich and Lillian (Grevis) Simpson; two brothers, Bill Curtis and Willie Curtis, Jr.; a sister, Rosella Whitaker.
Family wishes to especially thank his daughter-in-law, Debbie Simpson and granddaughter, Belinda Poynter for their gentle loving care and dedication.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Isaacs and Bro. Scott Guiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery with full military honors observed.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Travis Simpson, Jerry Gray, Anthony Eversole, Garrison Gray, Reather Keith Simpson, Jonathan Adkinson, James Vallandingham and Mike Adkinson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Raz Adkinson, Tinker Simpson, Audie Reather Thomas and Dale Carson Thomas.
