Rebecca S. (Sue) Slagle, 87, of Fayetteville passed into eternity on November 28, 2017. Sue was born in Richmond, KY on April 29, 1930, to the late Richard and Lucy Parks into their family of fourteen children. She graduated from Madison County High School in Richmond, KY and from Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY. In 1952, Sue married William H. (Bill) Slagle, and they had two children, Rebecca Anne (Becki) and John Mark. They lived in Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, Indiana, and Georgia. Sue led an active life as a wife, homemaker, and secretary. She was an expert seamstress and cook, and her home was always a warm and welcoming place. She retired from the North American Mission Board in 1987. She also volunteered in various capacities, including active service in the church as a teacher and committee member. One of her notable contributions was volunteering as a certified ESL instructor. Throughout their marriage, Sue and Bill hosted numerous international students from nearby colleges and universities who became part of their extended family. They also traveled together extensively, including trips to the Holy Land, Europe, New Zealand, Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska. Sue is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill; daughter, Becki (Joe) Mayo; grandchildren, Hannah (Ted) James, William Massie, and Jared (Sarah) Massie; great-granddaughter, Eliza James; brothers, Charles, Harold, and Dr. Clay Parks; and sisters, Ann Christen, Mary Lee Webb, and Lucy Reams. She was preceded in death by her son, John Mark (1988); brothers, Ed, John, Andrew, Gene, Mariel, and Dr. Paul Parks; and sister, Ethelene Cahill. Visitation will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. A memorial service will begin 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with Dr. David Chancey officiating. The family would be honored for all guests to attend a luncheon at McDonough Road Baptist Church immediately following the service.
