Sonia Zelmira (Lazistan) Bonn, 88, a Richmond resident since 1978, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center.
She was born on May 3, 1928, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Martin and Anna (Kujan) Lazistan. Sonia was a cosmetic salesperson for Elizabeth Arden at McAlpins in Lexington, and Estee Lauder at Bamberger's (Macy's) in Eatontown, New Jersey, but her first love was dance, especially teaching tap and ballet along with gymnastics to children of all ages at the House of Drake School of Dance in both Jersey City and North Bergen, New Jersey. She had attended St Michael's Catholic Church in Long Branch, New Jersey, and St. Mark Roman Catholic Church here in Richmond.
Survivors include: her son, Dennis W. Bonn (Carol) of Maryland; her daughter, Sonia L. Smith of Richmond; three grandsons, Kenneth G. Smith, Jeffrey Bonn and Gregory Bonn; three great-granddaughters, Lillian Jade Smith, and Mary and Samantha Roseberry; one brother, Milan Lazistan Sr. of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles J. Bonn; one sister, Martha Sierpiejko; and a son-in-law, Kenneth P. Smith.
Funeral service for Sonia Bonn will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017, at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell funeral home.
