Sonny's Story

Allen Z. "Sonny" Whittaker Jr., passed away Thursday morning, December 15, 2016, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
Sonny was born in Richmond on September 16, 1932, to the late Allen Z. Whittaker and Hattie Young Whittaker. He was a retired supervisor of the former Begley Drug Company in Richmond. Sonny was a U.S. Army Veteran having served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of The Unity Baptist Church in Richmond.
Survivors include: his wife, the love of his life for 59 years Wanda Ann Lowery Whittaker, Richmond; one daughter: Charlotte L. Whittaker, Richmond; one grandson: Joseph P. Hart, Centerville, Ohio; one sister: Alberta Whittaker, Richmond; two nephew: Steve Rogers and Bruce Henderson; one niece, June Bruns; and his loving companion, his dog "Jack".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Cheryl Whittaker Hart, and two sisters, Elizabeth Singer and Margaret Henderson; three nephews, Tom Rogers, Bobby Singer and David Singer.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December, 19, 2016, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis L. Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Wesley Frazier, Fred Dodd, Herman Abney, Shannon Noland, Frank Rogers and Don Hisle.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Cliff Mead, John Houghton, Earl Dennis and Gary Parks.
Donations may be made to the Hospice Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, Kentucky 40475.
