Mrs. Syble Stephens Miller, 86, a long-time resident of Richmond, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Telford Terrace.
Mrs. Miller was born in 1930, in Albertville, Ala., the second daughter of the late Henry and Pauline Stephens and devoted sister of Mollie Ellen Anderton. She graduated from Mercer University in 1953, and embarked on her life's journey as wife, mother, educator, and community volunteer, with abundant energy and love for others.
Early in her career she taught at Georgetown College and as a public elementary school teacher in Indiana and Georgia. Upon moving to Richmond, she served 25 years as Education Coordinator with the Head Start Program of Kentucky River Foothills.
Syble loved entertaining in her home but devoted much of her time to community service. She is a past President of EKU Women, Charter member of the Gladhatters Red Hat Club, Member of the Cecilian Music Club, Fireside Forum, and member of the Home Meals Delivery board where she served many years as president.
Syble was a devoted Christ follower, and spent much of her time serving at First Baptist Church in the nursery, youth and college ministries, as well as serving as preschool choir director for many years. She loved the fellowship of her BYKOTA Sunday School Class.
In addition to her sister, Mrs. Miller is survived by: her sons, Robert W. Miller, Old Town, Fla., and  J. Kirk Miller, Louisville; daughters, Paula Miller (John) Pratt, Bloomington, Ill., and Erika Miller (Kevin) Watkins, Valencia, Calif.; 10 nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.  Syble will long be remembered by her loving caregiver Carol Parks who loved, laughed and cared for her for five years as she resolutely met the challenges of dementia.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 425 EKU Bypass, with Rev. Bill Fort officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. the day of the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to Home Meals Delivery of Richmond, KY, 325 University Dr., Richmond, KY 40475.
The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
