Vannie's Story

Vannie Iris Lane Rowell, 93, of Richmond, formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 Kenwood Health & Rehabilitation of Richmond.

Born November 8, 1923, at Waycross, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Walter James and Alma I. Dowling Lane and the widow of Robert O. Rowell. Mrs. Rowell was a retired interior decorator and of the Episcopalian faith. She worked closely with her husband in his home building business. They enjoyed traveling in Europe and the Far East. She served many years as a volunteer at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a feisty, funny, a true southern lady and loved her family fiercely.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Howell (David) of Richmond, KY; her son, John R. Rowell (Kay) of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, John-Michael Howell (Julia), Andrew Howell (Jacqulyn) and Priscilla Howell; nephews, Walter Pullen and T. C. Pullen; cousins, Steve Robbins (Stephanie), Jana Connolly, Laura Kelley, Shirley Davis, Michael Griffin, David Griffin and William Griffin.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathanael Howell, one sister, Mildred Pullen; one brother, Dellie Lane and one nephew Jeff Pullen.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 21, 2017, with entombment following at Arlington Park Cemetery, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida. Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, Richmond, KY is in charge of arrangements.
