Mrs. Vasile Jean Venettozzi, 95, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
The daughter of the late George and Louise Clappas Manos, she was born in Toronto, Ohio on November 22, 1922. Her father, George Manos, owned Manos Theatres, an extensive chain of theatres in locations throughout Eastern Ohio; Mrs. Venettozzi participated in the business beside her father until beginning her formal education.
She attended Baldwin Wallace College where she received her Bachelors of Music Degree and the prestigious and renowned Eastman College of Music where she earned her Masters of Music Degree. A noted classical pianist and operatic soprano in her own right, Mrs. Venettozzi began an equally successful career as a Professor and later taught at William Woods, Eastern Kentucky University and for many years at Morehead State University until her retirement. The list of accomplished musicians who studied with Mrs. Venettozzi is considerable and includes performers in the New York Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall and the Chicago Conservatory.
After retiring from the Kentucky University system, her love of music resulted in her return her teaching career at Kentucky Christian College (now Kentucky Christian University) in Grayson, Kentucky where she served as Professor of Music and Voice for nearly twenty years after retiring from Morehead State University. Mrs. Venettozzi was fluent in all the romance languages as well as Russian. In addition, she completed an academic sabbatical in Europe, studying and teaching at the Athens Conservatory of Music.
Mrs. Venettozzi was a member of the Panagia Pantovasilissa Greek Orthodox Church in Lexington. She was united in marriage with Victor Anthony Venettozzi who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons: Victor George Venettozzi of Raleigh, North Carolina and John Anthony Venettozzi of Lexington, and her daughter, Louise Bernadette Venettozzi of Louisville. Mrs. Venettozzis three grandchildren are Vanessa Michele Venettozzi, Michael Anthony Venettozzi and John Patrick Venettozzi.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Estella M. Sideris of Richmond, Kentucky and by two brothers; Robert Manos and Tom Manos.
Private Services were conducted at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond.
