William's Story

William Nelson Bill James, 85, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Baptist Health Richmond.

He was born in Richmond, Kentucky on June 29, 1932, to Henry and Lydia (Keeton) James, both of whom preceded him in death. Bill received his Bachelors degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Police Administration and was a retired supervisor for the EKU Police Department with 27 years of service. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and was an avid EKU and UK Football and basketball fan. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and one of his greatest pleasures was his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geneva Morris James, the love of his life, of Richmond; three daughters, Teresa Mole (Ed) of Pennsylvania, Cheryl Pruitt (Bud Carr) and Susan Whitman, both of Richmond; sisters, Dorothy Carr (Ben), Ruth Taulbee, Juanita Booth and Renda Roberts (Alan); and one brother, Harold Dean Rhodus.

He also leaves two granddaughters, Alicia Pruitt and Lindsey Whitman; five grandsons, Aaron Pruitt, Bruce Pruitt, Brad Hadden, Trae Carr, and Adam Whitman; great-grandchildren, Sydney Pruitt, Bella West, Charlee West, Kaylen Hadden, Grant Hadden, Jason Pruitt, Kayden Smith, Bailey Smith, Dwayne Adkins, Dillion Adkins, Dasey Adkins and Dixie Adkins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sallie Totton and two brothers, Ed Adams and Dwight Rhodus.

Funeral service for Bill will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Landon Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery with military honors..

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Pruitt, Bruce Pruitt, Jason Pruitt, Adam Whitman, Grant Hadden and Brandon Worley. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ed Mole and Howard Shiwash.
