William Henry Suters, Jr. "Bill", 79, died January 11, 2018. Bill was born in Utica, NY, and grew up in Waterville, NY. He served 3 years as a percussionist in the West Point Military Academy Band, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After graduating from Utica College, Bill moved to Berea and worked as a Health Educator for the Council of the Southern Mountains. He later served as director of the Mountain Maternal Heath League. Continuing his interest in the people of the Appalachian area, he worked as an Assistant to the President of Alice Lloyd College and later, the University of the Cumberlands.
Bill was an active member of White's Memorial Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder. Bill was a founding member of the Berea Volunteer Fire Department and served many years as a volunteer fireman. He also gave many years of community service on the Berea Sewer Commission.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Willian Henry Suters and Clara Belle Whitcombe Suters and a brother, Philip Suters.
Bill will be missed by Margaret "Meg", his wife of 54 years, his children Henry and his wife Leslie of Knoxville, TN, and Ellen Suters of Richmond, KY, his grandchildren Beth, Clare, and Will and many relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at White's Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 20th at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow in the Berea Cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. and again, Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church.
