Wilma Gray Million Carter, 88, passed away February 18, 2018. She was born on January 28, 1930, in Richmond, Kentucky, to the late Dr. Joel Bartleson Million and Beulah (Hendren) Million. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Carter Jr., and her daughter, Jennie Lee Carter.
She graduated from Model High School in Richmond, and then attended the University of Kentucky where she graduated with a degree in Accounting. While in college, she was initiated as a sister of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority where she met and kept lifelong friendships. While in college, Wilma met and married her husband Jim, also a U.K. graduate, in August 1954. His career brought them to Tampa in 1955 and then they built a home and moved to Temple Terrace where she and Jim raised their family.
She was a devoted wife and mother, was involved in a number of local community activities including the Temple Terrace Garden Club and the Ladies Church Circle at the Temple Terrace United Methodist Church where the entire family were active members for many years. She was also a member of the Tampa Alumni Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta and hosted a number of events at their home in Temple Terrace over the years.
Wilma is survived by: her daughter, Dawn Carter (Scott Ross) of Truckee, California; son, Bart Carter (Nora) of Bonsall, California; grandchildren, Kalani and Brennan.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, Florida 33592.
