Dorothy "Dot" Elizabeth Devere, 91, of Menifee Lane, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Terrace Nursing Home in Berea.
Dorothy was born in Ashland, Ky., to the late John and Eliza Mormon Ison. She was an English teacher at Madison Central for more than 21 years. After she retired, she loved spending time tending to her gardens and flowers. She was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at White Lick Baptist Church. When her health started to decline, she became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of many years, Andrew J. Devere, five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by: her six children, Brenna (James) Stamm, Darlene (Dennis) Grant, Marcia (Bob) Low, Maureen Sue (Vann) Bryant, John (Karen) Devere and Mike (Jennifer) Devere; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Kays officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Shannon Devere, Andrew Devere, Matthew Devere, Lucas Devere, Byron Bryant, and Jay Stamm.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Building fund.
