George's Story

George William Robinson, 90, of Richmond, son of the late George Clarence and Juanita Louise Thiede Robinson, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at The Terrace.
Born September 6, 1926 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Dr. Robinson was the Emeritus Professor of History at Eastern Kentucky University where he taught from 1956-1991 and chaired the history department form 1966-1984. Prior to coming to EKU he taught at Washburn University of Topeka, Kan., the University of Maryland Overseas Program and Wisconsin State University at Eau Claire. Dr. Robinson attended Oberlin College, Miami University of Ohio and the University of Wisconsin from which he received the B.S, M.S. and PHD Degrees. He was the Editor of two books, The Public Papers of Bert T. Combs and The Politics of Governor Bert T. Combs. In 1984, he received the Kentucky Historical Society's award for The Best Article in the Register 1983, The Founding of Cumberland Falls State Park. George Robinson was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II from 1944-1946 and was active in the Naval Reserve from 1944-1975, retiring as Lieutenant Commander.
George William Robinson is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Norma Tevis Robinson; one son, Lee Tevis Robinson (Kathy) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and one daughter; Carol Ann Robinson of Lexington; along with two nephews and a niece. In addition to his parents, Dr. Robinson was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Russell Robinson of Milwaukee, Wis.
Service for Dr. Robinson will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Dr. Glenn Birkett and Rev. Mark Condrey officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 9, 2016, from 4-6 p.m. at Oldham Roberts and Powell Funeral home.
