Lois's Story

Lois Easterling, 89, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Terrace Nursing Home in Berea.
She was born in Madison County on May 19, 1928, to the late John M. and Ada Symth Cockrell.
A graduate of Waco High School, Lois received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics and a Master of Education Degree in School Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University. She taught home economics at Model, Kingston and Madison Central High School and retired as a guidance counselor from Madison Central in 1987.
She was a skilled seamstress and accomplished pianist and organist serving many years as organist for Flatwoods Christian Church. She also served when needed as organist for Turpin Funeral Home. Lois was a lifelong member of Flatwoods Christian Church and a member of the Madison County Retired Teachers Association.
Lois is survived by: two cousins, Beverly Dezarn (Shirley), of College Hill, and Burke Smyth (Grace), of Mt. Home, Arkansas; as well as many second cousins and a host of friends and church family. Special thanks and appreciation goes to relative, Charles Wayne Carroll, for the daily vigilant phone calls to Lois over the past several years.
She was also blessed over the years and in recent months by caregivers who offered her love and friendship: Bonnie & William Cody, Paula & Scot Elkin, Clayton & Rachel Rader, Gwen Rhodus, Ann Kaylor, Darlene Henson and Judy Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmon Norwood "Del" Easterling, and her son, John Easterling.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Flatwoods Christian Church, 263 College Hill Road, Waco, with Rev. Tim Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and after 10 a.m. Friday, at the church.
Pallbearers will be: Speedy Denny, Todd Moberly, Clayton Rader, Raymond Ross, Chris Stanifer and Steve Tribble.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Harry & Betty Bush, Charles & Jean Metcalf, Harold & Donna Rice, Ralph & Judy Childers, Mary Ellen Broaddus, Audrey Cooper, Jeannette Crockett, Louise Rupard, Imogene Shelton and Diane Webb.
