Paul's Story

Text size

Paul Elder Muncy, 58, of Richmond died on July 14, 2017, at Cardinal Hill Hospital in Lexington after a 12-month battle with leukemia.
The son of the late E.J. "Junior" Muncy and Gene Elder Muncy, Paul was born on March 21, 1959, and lived in Richmond his entire life. He began his career working alongside his father at Muncy's Furniture Store, a family business dating back to 1918. He was an appraiser and partner in M & S Valuation for many years.
In the mid-1990s, Paul saw an opportunity to adapt the family business to better meet customers' needs, and he built Main Street Storage. He loved Richmond and its people. In all his business ventures, he sought to provide the community with needed services, housing, and business real estate.
Music was Paul's passion. Throughout his life, he enjoyed performing, playing guitar and singing in various venues around Central Kentucky. He had quite a following! He also loved a good political discussion as long as it was civil and grounded in reality.
Paul was known and admired for his upbeat attitude. He brought this optimism to his everyday life whether at work, talking with friends and family or in his courageous fight against leukemia. He had vision and purpose. A dreamer, he always saw the best in people and was kind to a fault.
Paul earned a bachelor's degree in business administration (with a concentration in finance) from Eastern Kentucky University. He graduated from Model Laboratory School, where he was voted Mr. Model High his senior year.
Paul is survived by two sisters: Margaret Muncy Willingham and Chrissy (John) Muncy Henderson; two nieces: Amy Willingham and Hunter Henderson; two nephews: Christopher (Natasha) Willingham and Jack Henderson; and one great-nephew: Bryson Hammons. He also is survived by two aunts: Bicki (Russell) Elder Elswick and Betty Neil (Joe) Elder Kirkpatrick; many cousins, and his beloved pets: Bebe, Lillie, and Minnie.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Oldham, Roberts & Powell (ORP) Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 1 p.m. at ORP with Father Jim Sichko officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Humane Society Animal League for Life of Madison County (humanesocietyall.com), P.O. Box 2094, Richmond, KY 40476-2094 or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 301 East Main Street, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40202.
