Thompson "Tom"'s Story

Thompson Tom Burnam III, 86, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at The Terrace Nursing & Rehab Center in Berea.

Born January 14, 1931 in Richmond, at the old Pattie A. Clay Hospital, Tom was the son of Thompson Burnam, Jr. and Dorothy Perry Burnam, both of whom preceded him in death. When Tom was born, his mother brought him home to Moran Summitt from the hospital in a laundry basket on the Old Henry Train.

He was a graduate of Model Laboratory School and in 1950 he married his childhood sweetheart, Coy. Tom was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Transportation, but most of all he loved farming and enjoyed driving his old red truck. He was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Kirksville Christian Church. Tom was a NASCAR enthusiast and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhart, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Coy Hagan Burnam of Richmond; one daughter, Coy Burnam Weldon (Mike) of Punta Gorda, Florida; one granddaughter, Jamie Bryant Samuelson (Marc) of Houston, Texas; two great-grandchildren Parker and Emma Samuelson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Milt & Lynn Ward and M.C. & Ellen Hagan.

Funeral service for Tom will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday October 7, 2017 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Shelby Cates and John Poulette officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be M.C. Hagan, Jason Adams, Matt Adams, Larry Agee, Bob Lakes, Leo Goss, Gaylon Denny, Jason Denny, Jimmy Tudor, Jim Adams, Vernon Goins, Royce Burnam Rogers, A.C. Combs Jr., David Hagan, Mike Hawley, Terry Gortney, Milt Ward and Heath Turner.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Round Hill Breakfast Club and Russell Rose, Joe Denny, Donald Ray, A.C. Combs, Bill Shelton, Paul Perkins, Dusty Carter, Chan Combs, Bill Ward, Seth Tackett, Kevin Webb, Glenn Cox and Carl Turner.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at The Terrace Nursing & Rehabilitation for the fabulous care that Tom received and a special thank you Leroy, his roommate at The Terrace.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society, ALL, of Madison County or to the Kirksville Christian Church.
