Virginia Katheryne Sweeney, 89, of Richmond, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, April 16, 2017, after a long illness.
She was born May 16, 1927, in Middletown, Kentucky, to the late Edward Lee Williams (and Ruth) and the late Leona Irene Martin Williams, and was the widow of Richard C. Sweeney. A loving mother and housewife, Virginia was the former owner and operator of Mt. Villa Motel in Mt. Vernon. She served as a volunteer at the former Pattie A Clay Hospital for over seven years and was a member of Madison Hills Christian Church.
Survivors include: her daughter, Sandra K. Kidd (Jeff) of Richmond; two sisters, Danise Jackson (Don) of Lake Wales, Florida, and Martha Mae Hodge (John) of Louisville; grandchildren, Jennifer Hacker, Erica Gibson (John) and Cassie Kidd; great-grandchildren, Rayelle Gilchrist, John Gibson and Jeffrey Gibson; and two special great-granddaughters, Marley and Ariah Tillman. She also leaves: two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Gupton (Audrey), George Gupton (Carolyn); sister-in-law, LaVerne Crawley (Dennis), as well as her loving caregivers, Ashley Watkins, Cindy Smith, Jericca Watkins and Jaylin Watkins.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Williams, Sr.
Funeral service for Virginia will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Frazer officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Kidd, Donald Jackson, John Gibson, Richard "Dick" Fess, Tim Crawley, Greg Watkins, Dan Bodine, and Carl Short.
