Willard Edwin Swinford, 95, of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at his home.
He was born April 9, 1921, in Disputanta, Kentucky, in Rockcastle County to John Sherman and Daisy Smith Swinford, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a retired professor for the Department of Industrial Technology at Eastern Kentucky University and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII where he served in the Pacific Theatre.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Redmon Swinford, and a newborn son, David Swinford, and is survived by: one son, Michael Lee Swinford (Bobbi) of Las Vegas, Nevada; one daughter, Sylvia Davis (William E.) of Richmond; three grandchildren, Jennifer Avery (Todd), Jessica Cruse (Anthony) and Melanie Rivera (Anthony); five great-grandchildren, Sam Eye, Makayla Cruse, Kassi Eye, Tanner Cruse, and Jackson Rivera, as well as his special Maltese companion, Gem. A special thanks to his caregivers, Lisa Short, Elmer Perkins, Sherry Shaw, Teresa Foster and Mary Shepard.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Berea Cemetery, with James Masterson officiating.
