Anthony Scott Groth
Anthony Scott Groth, 32, of Richmond, KY, lost his battle with depression in October 2019. Anthony is remembered as a talented jockey, car enthusiast, adventure seeker, beloved family member and friend to many. He was well loved by friends and family across the U.S., notable for his infectious smile, caring demeanor, and sharp wit.
Anthony was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland on May 27, 1987 and graduated from Bel Air High School in Bel Air, MD. In his adult years, Anthony lived and traveled all over the U.S. because of his involvement in the horse racing industry and his adventurous spirit. He was a long-term member of the Jockeys' Guild and rode at many farms and tracks throughout his years as a jockey. He loved all animals, large and small. He was working as a chemical agent monitoring technician for Battelle Memorial Institute at the time of his death.
Anthony will be greatly missed by his family, including father Edward and stepmother, Carol Tolbert Groth; his mother Diane; his son, Brady Groth, and co-parent Caitlin Reigle; a sister Katrina Groth and her husband John Burke; and a brother Nicholas Groth, his wife Heather, and daughter Olivia. He is also survived by his grandfather Arthur Smith, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Oldham, Roberts, & Powell, Funeral Home in Richmond beginning at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 9th with a memorial service held at 4:00 pm. A celebration of life will also be held on Sunday November 10th at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY from 1:00 until the races end. The "Anthony Groth Memorial Race" will be run that day. Visitors can get information regarding location of the Groth family at the Will Call Window.
The family would like to thank Deputy Joshua Stone, Madison County Sheriff's office for his help during this trying time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Groth family, who have established a custodial account for Brady Groth at the Navy Federal Credit Union or to the Disabled Jockeys' fund.
